Northwest Regional Library plans activities, programs for June

Next month's roster of activities at Northwest Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

Adult Programs

English Caf

10:30 a.m., Thursdays, June 1, 8, 15, 22

Free, informal conversation sessions for adult ESOL/ESL students.

New Movie Matinee

1:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 21

Join us for a showing of a newly released-on-DVD movie each month. The audience will get to choose between two of our Most Wanted DVDs. Movie ratings will vary and this program is primarily intended for adult audiences. Space is limited to 200.

Tea Time Talks

6:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 27

Join us for an evening of books, fun and cookies. Everyone is welcome to stop by to discuss their favorite books. Get recommendations from friends, neighbors and librarians on everything from recent releases to forgotten classics. Tea and cookies will be provided. No registration required.

Storytime

Baby Rhyme Time

10:30 a.m., Wednesdays,

June 7, 14, 21, 28

During this special storytime, you and your baby will learn new nursery rhymes and fingerplays, interact with puppets, sing, read books and dance.

Family Storytime

11 a.m., Thursdays, June 8, 15, 22, 29

The whole family is invited to this enjoyable, all-ages storytime that encourages the development of prereading skills through songs, rhymes, fingerplays and stories.

Children's Programs

Super Fun Saturday

10 a.m., Saturday, June 3

Come play with us at the library. Activities change monthly and vary from dancing, storytelling, art projects and more. Fun for the whole family.

Kids Read Down Fines

10 a.m. to noon, Saturdays, June 10, 24

5-7 p.m., Tuesdays, June 13, 27

Children and teens earn a $2 coupon or credit for every 15 minutes they read in the designated area for a total of $8 in one session. Credit may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under and applies only to overdue charges.

Lego Club

2 p.m., Saturday, June 10

Join us for a short story and Lego-based games and activities. Children can also build and share a Lego creation. Lego pieces provided.

Family Build It Night

5 p.m., Tuesday, June 13

Families and friends can try their skills at building towers using unusual materials such as newspapers, pipe cleaners or dried spaghetti. Prizes will be awarded to the tallest free standing tower and the most successful overall team. We'll provide the supplies; you bring your imagination and a group of 2-4 people that are ready to build. Registration is required.

On the Table: Under Construction

9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, June 17

Come to the youth services area and transform our junk into your treasure.

Family Origami Fun

2- 4 p.m., Saturday, June 24

Stop by to learn more about this ancient Japanese craft. We'll provide the origami paper, instructions and hands on demonstrations. You can take your masterpieces home or leave them to be displayed at the library.
