May 19, 2017

The No. 3 seed Florida SouthWestern softball team split a pair of games at the 2017 NJCAA National Tournament Thursday, falling to Lake Land 16-8 (6 innings) and defeating North Central Texas 6-2 in St. George, Utah at the Canyons Complex.

With the split, the FSW record moves to 63-6 overall. The Bucs will now face No. 7 San Jacinto South today at 2 p.m. A loss eliminates FSW from the national tournament, but a win advances the Purple and Aqua in the consolation bracket of the NJCAA National Tournament play and sets up a 4:30 p.m. matchup against a to be determined opponent and with a second win on the afternoon, a 9:30 p.m. game against another to be determined foe.

In the loss to Lake Land, FSW surrendered four homers and 16 hits. In the 6-2 win over NCT, Marta Fuentes led the squad with a 3 for 4 performance at the plate. The George Washington signee also added three RBIs and three runs scored. Riley Russell went 2 for 2 with a pair of runs scored, while Criza Bulanadi, Mikayla Werahiko, Christian Quinn and Molly Roark each finished 1 for 3 on the evening.

Today's game will mark the second all-time meeting between FSW and San Jacinto. The Bucs defeated San Jac, 6-1, in the opening round of the 2016 NJCAA National Tournament.
