Dr. Mel Youngs, D.C., P.A., has announced one of the newest additions to her healthcare team, Dr. Misty Hutchinson, chiropractic physician.

Hutchinson graduated with a bachelor of science degree in biology from Marshall University. She obtained her doctorate from Sherman College of Chiropractic. After owning her own wellness clinic for the last 18 years in West Virginia, Hutchinson grew weary of the long winters and decided to enjoy the Florida sun.

IBERIABANK's 'Funky Fashion Show' to benefit Love that Dress!9 June 21

Love That Dress!9 continues its collection event fun with IBERIABANK's "Funky Fashion Show" hosted at the Cape Coral Yacht Club, 5819 Driftwood Parkway, Cape Coral, Wednesday, June 21, from 6-9 p.m., featuring extraordinary entertainment, food, raffles, and prizes.

The fashion show starts at 7 p.m. featuring one-of-a-kind pieces created by individuals and businesses, completely from recycled/repurposed items. The fashion show prize includes two tickets to Love That Dress!9 and a $100 gift card.

Tractor Supply Company to host pet adoptions Saturday

Tractor Supply Company at 5881 Bayshore Road in North Fort Myers will host pet and livestock adoptions Saturday, June 17.

During the event - which is held in celebration of pet and livestock owners - families will have the opportunity to visit with adoptable animals, and are also invited to interact with adoption volunteers to learn more about the joys and responsibilities associated with owning anything from cats and dogs to rabbits, goats, pigs, horses and more.

Purina Days is an annual in-store event from June 14-18 that highlights pets and livestock, as well as the tools needed to properly care for them. N. Ft. Myers Tractor Supply team members with experience caring for a wide variety of animals will be on-site to lend expert advice to customers.

The community groups participating on Saturday, June 17 include the Pet Vet, who will be on site from 4-5:30 p.m.

Rivera earns board certification as consumer bankruptcy specialist

Henderson, Franklin, Starnes & Holt, P.A., has announced that Attorney Luis E. Rivera successfully met all the requirements and earned national certification as a consumer bankruptcy specialist from the American Board of Certification. In 2016, Rivera earned certification as a business bankruptcy specialist and now is one of only 11 attorneys in Florida who hold these dual certifications by the American Board of Certification.

Markham Norton Mosteller Wright &?Co. to host Community Shred Day

Markham Norton Mosteller Wright & Co., P.A. will partner with Secure Shredding Inc. to host a Community Shred Day event Friday, July 28, from 9 a.m. until noon. The Secure Shredding Inc. truck will be on site at MNMW, 8961 Conference Drive, in Fort Myers. There will be a two box maximum per person for shredding.

This is a free event, however, MNMW encourages participants to consider a donation to the United Way of Lee, Hendry, Glades and Okeechobee Counties when dropping off shred items. This can be in monetary form, or canned goods/new or gently used clothing. A United Way representative will be on site to receive the donations and answer questions.

Items that can be shredded are limited to paperwork such as statements, tax records, contracts, blank checks, etc. A good rule to determine if an item can be shredded is "if it tears, it can be destroyed." Items NOT suitable for shredding include hard drives, cell phones, batteries, etc. All shredded material will be recycled to support an eco-friendly environment. A shred drop box will be in the MNMW lobby during business hours the week before and the week following the event for those who cannot participate in Community Shred Day activities on July 28. A two box maximum per person will be applied during this two week period as well.

Homeless Heroes collection drive honors memory of veteran's advocate

21st Century Oncology is hosting a collection drive for homeless veterans today, June 16, from noon to 2 p.m., in memory of Debra Dempsey, 21st Century Oncology's manager of veterans programs & relations. On May 26, Dempsey, a tireless advocate for veterans, passed away in a tragic accident.

The collection drive will be held at 2770 Colonial Blvd. in Fort Myers.

Dempsey worked at the VA Medical Center for 35 years before joining 21st Century Oncology where she continued serving veterans by helping them gain access to the healthcare they needed. She was passionate about helping "her veterans" with their healthcare needs.

To honor Dempsey's legacy, 21st Century Oncology is hoping to continue her work through the Homeless Heroes Collection Drive.

Most needed items are reusable water bottles, socks, underwear, sunscreen, rain ponchos, disposable razors, insect repellant, shampoo, shaving cream, deodorant, cleansing wipes, combs and brushes. Food items will also be accepted, such as canned fruits and vegetables, whole grain foods, peanut butter, healthy snacks (fruit cups, raisins, granola bars), beans, tomato products (dried tomatoes and spaghetti sauce) and lean canned protein.

Free seminars offered on Social Security benefits and financial planning for dementia

Financial advisors Danielle and Graham Lucht of Alliance Financial Group will present four, one-hour presentations on maximizing Social Security benefits and financial planning in the face of dementia in July.

The sessions are free and open to public.

On July 13, from at 2-6 p.m., the couple will educate attendees on strategies to help reduce the taxes in their IRA and defer up to 25 percent of their IRA's required minimum distribution and the best techniques to maximize Social Security. This seminar is best for anyone who hasn't started taking their RMD or Social Security benefits and will show the potential pitfalls and costs of taking Social Security too early.

On July 27, from at 2-6 p.m., the Luchts will be joined by local attorney Brian Downey for a discussion on financial planning in the shadow of dementia. This presentation is meant for adult children who know they will be caring for their aging parents or who are currently caring for parents. Downey will give an overview of all the legal aspects adult children need to be aware of when helping manage their parents' assets and legal documents.
