Cape High softball team pounds East Lee County

Avery Mytnik struck out 15 batters as the Cape High Seahawks (1-1) rolled to their first softball win of the season, downing East Lee County 15-1.

Mytnik allowed two hits. Freshman Rachel Manes was 2-for-2 with a walk for Cape Coral, stealing three bases and scoring three times. Marcia Vazquez was 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Tara Striggow went 2-for-3 with a walk, two steals and two runs scored.

Cape Coral's next game is at home Monday against South Fort Myers.

Baseball

Bishop Verot 10, Imagine School North Port 0: Thomas Rizzo was 2-for-3, scored and drove in three runs for the Vikings (1-1, 1-0 District 4A-5). Daniel Blitz had two runs and drove in a run, and Evan Ames, Matt Powell, Dalton Claus and Cam Hoines each had an RBI for Bishop Verot. Cade Middleton pitched five innings for the Vikings, striking out 12 and allowing two hits and one walk. Alex Maurer fanned two and allowed a hit in one inning of work.

Mariner 8, Lemon Bay 2: The Tritons rode a five-run second inning to the victory. Barron Northorp, Gavin Walker and Jimmy Meredeth drove in runs during the rally. Walker pitched 4 1/3 innings for the win, giving up two runs on three hits. Meredith and Xzavien Torres worked in relief. Walker and Torres had two RBI each. Kenny Burgos and Jaylen Young each scored twice. The Tritons' eight hits came from eight different batters.

North Fort Myers 33, Dunbar 2 (5): The Red Knights are 2-0 with the victory.

Boys Tennis

Mariner 7, Island Coast 0: Andrew Kibler (M) d. Jesse Shoup (IC) 6-3, 6-1; Teddy Perchall (M) by forfeit; Hayden Wiseley (M) d. Yuma Goddard (IC) 6-1, 6-1; Yeni Win (M) by forfeit; Brandon King (M) by forfeit. Doubles: Kibler/Wiseley (M) by forfeit; Win/Perchall (M) d. Shoup/Goddard 8-6. The Tritons' next match is Thursday against Lehigh.
