Cape Coral is a community of kindness

To the editor:

On a recent boating trip we anchored for two nights in Bimini Basin, a Cape Coral gem. As the Captain had a yen for Chinese food we began a long trek to Chiquita Boulevard in 84 degree heat. Cape Coral hospitality saved the day when a very kind couple, formerly from Chicago, offered us a ride to the restaurant.

Further surprises awaited us - I lost my wallet in the bus on our return ride. Panic set in and another rescue took place when Jose from the Screamin Ice Cream shop quickly drove me to the bus transfer station to look for Bus 30. He saved the day and refused my offer of a reward. Miraculously, a fellow passenger had changed to Bus 40 and when that passenger spotted me she said, "I gave your wallet to the bus driver!"

Wow - someone was looking out for me. A huge thank you and hug were all I had available to thank this honest lady. An hour later Bus 30 returned and a big bearded guy named John returned the wallet to a most grateful lady. Nothing but another thank you hug was accepted by John as he bade me a God bless.

Cape Coral can be proud of its most hospitable citizens. We shall return....
