Cape location to host qualifying contest for 2019 Nathan's Famous Hot Dog-Eating Championship

Nathan's Famous Inc. has released the official list of locations that will host hot dog-eating contests to qualify competitive eaters for the 2019 Fourth of July International Hot Dog-Eating Champion-ship at Nathan's Famous in Coney Island, Brooklyn.

Sanctioned by Major League Eating, the 2019 circuit is comprised of 14 qualifying events. The circuit kicks-off on Feb. 23 with an event in San Antonio, Texas. Nathan's Famous will make stops in 13 other cities before the final event takes place on July 4 at the Nathan's Famous flagship restaurant on the corner of Surf and Stillwell avenues in Coney Island, N.Y.

The other 2019 Nathan's Famous qualifiers will be held April 13 at Nathan's Famous Cape Coral; April 20 at Marlins Park Miami; April 27 at New York, New York Hotel & Casino Las Vegas, Nevada; May 9 at Bethpage Ballpark Central Islip, New York; May 11 at Wild Adventures Theme Park Valdosta, Georgia; May 11 at Coors Field Denver, Colorado; May 17 at Great American Ball Park Cincinnati, Ohio; June 1 at Busch Stadium St Louis, Missouri; June 2 atDutch Wonderland Lancaster, Pennsyl-vania; June 8 at Taste of Syracuse Festival - Syracuse, New York; June 9 at Norfolk Harborfest - Norfolk, Virginia; June 16 atCiti Field - Queens, New York; and June 22 at The Giant National Capital Barbecue Battle - Washington, D.C.

The top male and top female finishers from each qualifier will earn a spot to compete in the ESPN-televised finals at the original Nathan's Famous, a holiday tradition since 1916.

Hamilton earns Quickbooks Online Certification

Swain bookkeeper, media planner at Spiro &?Associates

Nominations sought for 2019 Apex Awards

The Women in Business committee of the Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for its 2019 Apex Awards. Nominations can be submitted through Friday, March 1, at www.fortmyers.org/events/ apex-awards.

Presented by Sanibel Captiva Community Bank, the annual Apex Awards event is an evening gala recognizing local women, also Chamber members, with outstanding reputations for professionalism, philanthropy and leadership.

The 14th annual Apex Awards dinner will be held on Saturday, Aug. 17, at The Westin Cape Coral Resort at Marina Village in Cape Coral. Five finalists will be recognized during the event, and one will be named the recipient of this year's Apex Award.

Hudnall's Home Check Services earns accredited member status

Hudnall's Home Check Services has earned accredited member status from the National Home Watch Association for the fifth year.

The NHWA was formed in 2009 in order to establish and maintain the highest industry standards for Home Watch and absentee homeowner services throughout the United States and Canada (www.nationalhomewatchassociation.org). Home Watch is a service that "keeps an eye on things" at your vacation or primary home while you are not in residence.

Owners Ron and Nancy Hudnall started Hudnall's Home Check Services because of their previous careers. Both long-time residents of Fort Myers, Ron had just completed a 28-year career with the Lee County Sheriff's Office, where he was a highly decorated officer, even earning a Lifetime Achievement Award. During those years, he spent time with the Crime Prevention Unit, where he educated homeowners on home security and Neighborhood Watch programs.

Nancy has been a licensed Realtor since 1994, but before that she worked as a 911 operator and dispatcher at the Lee County Sheriff's Office. That's where she and Ron met.
